What is a Gulet?
A gulet is a traditional wooden sailing yacht originating in the Eastern Mediterranean. These vessels are designed for relaxed coastal cruising and feature wide decks for sunbathing and dining, along with comfortable private cabins. Today, modern gulets combine classic craftsmanship with contemporary onboard amenities and are widely used across various Mediterranean cruising destinations.
Do I need a license to charter a Gulet?
No license is required. All gulet charters are operated with a professional captain and experienced crew who handle navigation and daily operations. This allows guests to enjoy a private gulet charter without any prior sailing experience.
What is included in the price of Gulet charter?
The charter price generally includes the private use of the gulet, crew services, and fuel for limited daily cruising. Bed linen, towels, and standard onboard equipment are also included. Food, beverages, port fees, and special requests may vary by yacht and should be confirmed in advance.
Where can I charter a Gulet?
Gulet charters are most popular in the Mediterranean, particularly in Turkey, Greece, Croatia, and Italy. Select routes are also available in destinations such as Montenegro and Spain. Available itineraries depend on the yacht’s base port, cruising regulations, and the season.
How many people can a Gulet accommodate?
Gulets are available in various sizes and layouts, typically accommodating between 6 and 20+ guests for overnight charters. Each yacht has a defined guest capacity to ensure comfort, safety, and compliance with maritime regulations.
Can I customize the itinerary for my Gulet charter?
Yes. Gulet charters are private and offer flexible itineraries. Guests can plan routes and daily stops together with the captain, taking into account cruising distances, local regulations, and weather conditions.
What type of meals are served on board?
Meals are freshly prepared onboard by a private chef, usually featuring Mediterranean cuisine made with local ingredients. Special dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or allergy-specific meals can be arranged with advance notice.
How far in advance should I book a Gulet charter?
Booking 3 to 6 months in advance is recommended, especially during the high season from June to September. Early reservations provide a wider selection of yachts and preferred travel dates.
Is travel insurance recommended for Gulet charters?
Yes. Comprehensive personal travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover medical needs, cancellations, or unexpected situations that may arise before or during your charter.
Are children allowed on board Gulet charters?
Yes, children are welcome on most gulets. Many yachts are suitable for families and offer layouts designed to provide a safe and comfortable onboard experience for guests of all ages.
What happens if the weather is bad during my charter?
Guest safety and comfort are always the captain’s top priority. In case of unfavorable weather, the route or daily schedule may be adjusted, or time may be spent in sheltered bays to ensure a secure and enjoyable cruising experience.
